ABOUT DARRIN

My name is Darrin Creenaune, I’m a Chef, and I’ve been in the hospitality industry for over 20 years now and still loving it. I’ve worked in pubs, clubs, catering and even kiosks. I landed a job in the TAFE restaurant when I was 3-4 weeks into my studies, where I got the opportunity to work under four great Chefs, learning what I could from them which gave me such a significant step forward in my career and I thank them all for giving me that opportunity.

During my studies, I had the chance to work at the Sydney Olympics in 2000, and if given the opportunity to do it again, I’d do it in a heartbeat. Working long hours with very short breaks and travelling long distances to and from our accommodation was very hard, but worth it, I was working with people who had travelled from many different parts of the world. Some of these people were volunteers, and all they got were their uniforms, there was no pay, and they had to sort out their own accommodation, travel and living expenses, whereas the other Chefs and I were paid, so I have to take my hat off to all of them.

From there, I started on a career that has spanned 20 years so far and hopefully many more years to come. I have had the pleasure of working everywhere from bistros in the outback to island living and cooking at Tangalooma Resort in Queensland. The knowledge I have learnt from other chefs and been able to pass on to younger chefs has been immeasurable, and one of the favourite things about my career.

Now for the personal stuff, I have two beautiful daughters, Jo-Anne who is 27 and Cassandra who is 20 both genuinely unique in their ways, and they have me as their father, so God helps them, lol. I also love fishing and will quite often go out with my mates to catch dinner in the Moreton bay area. I also enjoy car racing and love watching my daughter (Jo) on the track. My other daughter Cassie has taken to cooking, just like her old man, and we love sharing recipes and comparing cooking styles.

Ok, that’s enough about me, the reason that I created this site and put in so much time into it was so that YOU can enjoy cooking as much as I do, this has been a fun and a very educational experience. I’ve never done this before, and I thought I’d give it a go. There will be mistakes, and I would hope that this doesn’t take away from your experience, I hope you can enjoy what I’ve done as I would like you to feel at home here. This platform is supposed to make it easier for you and I to communicate, so please feel free to comment and even add stuff to the site such as recipes, ideas, concerns etc
